NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment
Ethical Responsibilities to Children
Ideal I-1.1- To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and to stay informed through continuing education and training.
I feel that it essential in working in the early childhood field that we deepen our knowledge and understanding in early childhood education to better serve the families we work with. Each child has different needs and it is important that we have the proper tools that work best for that particular child. By continuing my education and training, I will have further growth in my profession.
Ethical Responsibilities to Families
Ideal I-2.1- To develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with the families we serve.
I believe creating a positive relationship with a family is key to a child's success. It is essential that the family you are working with is comfortable and willing to listen to your suggestions and strategies and apply them on their own.
It is important that we respect the values and traditions that make up the family you are working with.
Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues
Ideal I-3A.2- To share resources with co-workers, collaborating to ensure that the best possible early childhood care and education program is provided.
In my profession, I am in the position where I need to collaborate with colleagues to better serve the children I am working with. As a home visitor, I am working on specific goals for each child that may involve a speech pathologist, physical therapist, and an occupational therapist. It is crucial that we communicate and share ideas to help each child complete their goals.
Hi Angie,
ReplyDeleteOur ideals are similar, and I realize that this class is of major importance to the furtherance of your career. I know you value the resources that has been available to you throughout the course. Although I am mot directly involved with the children as you are, the class has brought a lot of insight to me also.
Collaboration is so important like you said! I've worked in two Pre-K/K classes, and both grades each teacher fended for themselves! I was amazed how some teachers would not share. I now know it is not like this everywhere. Thanks for doing your part in collaborating with other early childhood professionals!
ReplyDeleteHi angie,I hope that you have gotten a lot of this course to help further your education with your job now and to help you to succeed on with the master program at walden.
ReplyDeleteThe first NAEYC ethic is so powerful isn't it? I think it speaks to all of us in this course. We have a huge reponsibility to our children, parents and staff to stay current and be a well informed resource.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great to have the relationship that you have with you families. I wish I had the opportunity to visit my families in their home setting. It makes for better bonding and trust.
ReplyDeleteAmanda, I am really focusing on the second ideal that you listed. I have always loved working with families but I am attempting to strengthen that even more at my new school. We use EdLine to post grades, but I have begun to put additional things for parents. One is a section called "Parents are Teachers" where I feature a suggestion for learning from parents. It's fun and exciting to encourage the families to learn from eachother.
ReplyDeleteyou have listed some great ideas and they are some that i can live by when i become an educator.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your code of ethical. I will try some of your techinque.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed working with you in discussions and on our blogs. I know you will continue to do well here at Walden. Best Wishes! Janell
